The Diary of Mary Martin

5th/6th class have been working with the diary of Mary Martin recently. Mary Martin was a Dublin lady who in the early days of 1916 received the sad news that her son Charlie had gone missing while fighting for the British army during WW1. Mary started the diary with the hope that Charlie could easily catch up with the ‘happenings’ in Dublin once he was found . The diary details her day to day living and other important historical events such as ‘The Easter Rising’. Unfortunately Charlie was never to make it home and Mary stops the entries shortly after being informed of his death. The link below will let you view the diary and we think you’ll agree that its most interesting!
