Army Visit

On Friday 9th October we had a very busy morning. We had some soldiers visit us. We were very excited to have them in our school. Callum, Caitlin, Jamie & Ellie  and Elliot  were especially proud to see their Daddies in their uniforms coming in to present us with a copy of the 1916 Proclamation and an Irish flag.

The soldiers talked to us about the symbolism of the tri-colour and they asked us questions about its origins.

Corey from 5th class read an extract from the proclamation for us.

Ms. Leslie’s 5th & 6th class performed a drama about Easter Week 1916. The children from 3rd – 6th class played some Irish tunes and then everybody sang “Amhrán na bhFiann” accompanied by Adam on guitar.

The soldiers were very impressed and told us that they’ve been to more than 50 schools and they hadn’t seen anything like our performance anywhere else!

We have a slideshow for you to look at. Enjoy!
